Green Living Roof Shelters from Externiture
Haven

Mono with living roof

Mono Haven is our living green roof shelter for bus shelters and cycle shelters, and we are also experts at retro-fitting green roofs onto existing shelters.

Green roofs not only enhance the visual appeal of urban spaces but also offer a range of environmental, social, and economic benefits. Furthermore, they align seamlessly with the sustainability targets of local authorities, making them a strategic choice for councils aiming to meet their green objectives.

Built on the innovative mono concept framework the Mono Haven features the unique Hub Roof design, which not only houses the sedum green roof but also allows for enhanced branding, and can include integrated solar panels to help power lighting and other shelter features.

Refurbishing shelters is the ideal opportunity to retro-fit a living green roof retrospectively. After a survey to confirm the structural integrity of the shelter, a ‘Green’ roof can be fitted to most shelters, to improve air quality and contribute positively to your environmental and sustainability goals.

What our clients say

"The busy Court Drive bus stop has a brand new shelter which serves not only the local community but local sports, leisure, educational and shopping facilities. The new shelter has been designed with passenger comfort and convenience in mind and has something for everyone and in line with the Council’s Net Zero 2030 ambitions, it also features a green living roof. The new Externiture Mono Superhub shelter is one of a number of new shelters being installed along the busy bus routes, each configured to the specific needs of its location."

Central Bedfordshire Council

Senior Public Transport Officer

"We have inspected the BSI and shelters and are super impressed. The finish is such a high quality."

Hamsphire County Council

Passenger Transport & Infrastructure Project Officer

"The new bus shelters are really noticeable—when I have been out and about around Thatcham they’ve really caught my eye. Not only do they look great, it’s obvious that Externiture has clearly put a lot of thought into the design. They stand out in a really positive way, providing people protection while they’re waiting for the bus, and the green roofs are a great touch for the environment. They're a real step forward for bus users locally — and we hope they’ll encourage more people to give public transport a try."

Thatcham Town Council

Thatcham Town and District Councillor

"A bus journey generally begins at the bus stop. An attractive shelter boosts confidence in the bus network, encouraging more people to choose public transport. Thanks to funding from the Department for Transport's Bus Service Improvement Plan, we have been able to deliver upgrades to bus shelters across Central Bedfordshire. By installing new designs where they’re needed most and reusing existing shelters elsewhere, we’re making the best use of resources while supporting greener, smarter travel across Central Bedfordshire."

Central Bedfordshire Council

Cllr Travey Wye, Executive Member for Sutainability and Climate Resilience

"Leighton Buzzard Railway Station public transport facilities were outdated, tired and in need of a major overhaul. Utilising BSIP funding, we were able to work with Externiture on our plan to enhance the bus/rail passenger experience by introducing a higher specification bus shelter, providing a safe and comfortable waiting point, with greater protection from inclement weather. The stopping area for bus services was also upgraded with raised kerbs, levelled bus stopping area and improved road markings. We now have a greatly improved experience for bus users and bus operators."

Central Bedfordshire Council

Senior Public Transport Officer

"Across the county, we have been working with Central Bedfordshire Council to deliver improving bus services and higher bus use, through wise investment of HM Government's BSIP funding. The partnership with Externiture has been a key part of this, delivering improved waiting facilities for customers on our Hi, Jo and 42 services in Houghton Regis, and in Sandy for customers using our East Bedfordshire network."

Dave Shelley, Grant Palmer Limited

"Oxfordshire County Council have worked with Externiture for a while and recently asked them to assist on a multiple-site install of several bus shelters and associated works. From the initial conversation with the team through to the delivery of the final shelter, the service and communication have been second to none. With an ongoing programme of S106 works and other maintenance matters to work through, having a supplier we can rely on helps immeasurably."
