Externiture and Oxfordshire County Council

The most productive client relationships are genuine working partnerships – where both sides understand each other’s pressures, priorities and ambitions, and where trust, built steadily over time, makes it possible to do better work together.

Our relationship with Oxfordshire County Council is exactly that. It began in 2005, when we were awarded our first contract with the county for Bus Stop Infrastructure (BSI) – the posts, flags, timetable cases, clearway plates and associated hardware that makes a stop function. BSI and shelter installation both include groundworks: the civils element that underpins every installation, from simple post foundations to more complex surfacing and kerb works. From that BSI foundation the relationship grew naturally to encompass shelter supply and installation and has continued without interruption ever since. Today it spans the full range of what we do: BSI, groundworks, shelter supply and installation, condition surveys and strategic consultancy. Across all of it, the same principles have guided how we work: show up, deliver, and bring more to the table than was asked for.

A huge thank you – for a job well done. It was a good example of teamwork, communication and collaboration.

THE BREADTH OF OUR WORK TOGETHER

Over the course of the relationship, we have worked with Oxfordshire across the full range of what we do. That breadth is not incidental it reflects the county’s confidence in bringing different types of challenge to us, and our ability to respond with the right capability each time.

WHAT OUR PARTNERSHIP LOOKS LIKE IN PRACTICE

The quality of a long-term client relationship is most clearly revealed when things get difficult. A case in point: when Oxfordshire faced the complex, extended programme of works associated with the Botley Road corridor – a major arterial route running into the heart of Oxford – our team was deeply involved in coordinating our element of the delivery. The logistical and communication demands were significant. When it was complete, the council wrote to commend the way we had worked – specifically calling out our teamwork, communication and collaborative approach. That kind of feedback matters to us, not as a badge to collect but as a reflection of how we try to operate on every project. We are not a company that delivers and disappears. We stay engaged, we communicate proactively, and when problems arise we work with our clients to find solutions rather than defaulting to the contract.
