Transforming travel experiences, enhancing public transport and promoting sustainability
A phased programme combining new Mono, Mono Neighbourhood and Mono Superhub shelters with refurbishment and relocation of existing shelters to extend the life of public assets, reduce waste and improve more stops.
Working with Central Bedfordshire Council, we’re upgrading bus stop infrastructure using Department for Transport funding through the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP). It’s a programme that improves comfort and safety for passengers, while helping the council get more value from the assets it already owns.
A bus journey generally begins at the bus stop. An attractive shelter boosts confidence in the bus network, encouraging more people to choose public transport. Thanks to funding from the Department for Transport’s Bus Service Improvement Plan, we have been able to deliver upgrades to bus shelters across Central Bedfordshire. By installing new designs where they’re needed most and reusing existing shelters elsewhere, we’re making the best use of resources while supporting greener, smarter travel across Central Bedfordshire. For this BSIP-funded programme, Central Bedfordshire Council identified all the bus stops to receive new shelters and highlighted the priority upgrade locations for the largest shelters. From there, we carried out detailed site surveys at each priority stop, using our on-the-ground assessment to confirm what could be delivered safely and accessibly within the constraints of the location.
Our operational delivery includes planning, sequencing and delivering a live, multi-site programme which enables the local authority to:
